Automobile

By car from the airport, take the 405 freeway north to the 10 Freeway (also known as the Santa Monica Freeway), then take the 10 west to the ocean. Or avoid the freeways: exit the airport at Sepulveda Boulevard, take Sepulveda north to Lincoln Boulevard and follow Lincoln to downtown Santa Monica. Or take the locals’ route: Lincoln to Venice Boulevard, turn right on Venice to Walgrove, then left on Walgrove which becomes 23rd Street; follow 23rd to Colorado Avenue, turn left and head straight to the Pier.

Shuttle Vans

Shuttle vans between LAX and Santa Monica (SuperShuttle 310.782.6600; Prime Time Shuttle 800.733.8267) charge about $20–$30 per person (group rates are available), not including gratuity. Taxis

Taxis charge about $25-$50 from LAX to Santa Monica (including a $2.50 surcharge for each taxi leaving the airport, but not including gratuity).

Bus

Private Transporters

Contact Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau for a list of private local transportation companies. At the airport, transportation coordinators are available to assist you. Rates range from $75 to $200 depending on the type of vehicle.

Train

The Amtrak train terminal, Union Station, is at 800 N. Alameda Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. From the train station to Santa Monica, you may take a taxi, shuttle, bus (operated by the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), or the Big Blue Bus (the #10 Express; fare is $1.75).
